Prior Backcountry Splitboard - 2011 2012

Prior Backcountry Splitboard - 2011/2012

Free Shipping to REI Stores! (In-Stock)
Earning your turns has never been this fun! The Prior Backcountry splitboard gives self-propelled backcountry freeriders and explorers the means necessary to conquer fresh pow. Backcountry splitboard works best in powder, crud, hardpack, crust—all winter snowpacks. Hybrid rocker design features a rockered tip and tail combined with a subtle camber between the feet; tip and tail are reinforced so you'll have the confidence to go big. Hybrid rocker lets you take the board into deep powder without worrying about the tip diving down; subtle camber provides an effective edge length for quick turns. Tip-to-tail wood core: durable, vertically laminated aspen with maple hardwood stringers provides forgiving flex for edge control and solid turns. Core is wrapped with stitched fiberglass running in 4 directions; carbon stringers create a stiff, responsive and lively board. Traditional sandwich construction directs energy to the edges and keeps power loss to a minimum; rubber foil damps vibrations. Rugged, lightweight sidewalls offer low resistance and take a beating; 22° bevel on outer edges and 0° bevel on inside edges. Sintered graphite base is incredibly fast and hard; plus, it retains wax well and maintains a tough finish. Highly durable steel edges surround enitre board and deliver biting turns. Voile Universal Splitboard hardware kit for Light Rail bindings and Voile Universal Splitboard hardware kit for Burton sold separately. Skins and crampons available separately. The Prior Backcountry splitboard is handcrafted in Whistler, BC, Canada. .

Jones Solution Splitboard Snowboard Voile 164

Jones Solution Splitboard Snowboard Voile 164

Free Snowboarding Magazine Subscription or Sunglasses with Snowboard Purchase! (In-Stock)
The Jones Solution snowboard is ideal for backcountry freeriding and wilderness exploration. The Premier Splitboard. Like a beacon of light in the haze of the splitboard revolution, the Solution is the world's premier backcountry assault weapon. The pop, stability and float of this coveted all-terrain splitboard make fantasy a reality no matter where your alpine dreams may take you. The Solution stands at the top of its class featuring inner and outer edge Magne-Traction and a directional rocker profile with traditional camber underfoot. Set back or centered, the Solution's resilient but forgiving flex pattern allows you to strap into the driver seat and put the pedal to the floor in any terrain - steep, deep or technical. If you question what's around every corner of every snowy mountain range the world over, there is only one answer for the splitboard you deserve. The Solution is the solution. Lightweight and lady rippers don't miss the new "L" series Solution - a 154cm splitboard tuned especially for smaller riders.Key Features of the Jones The Solution Splitboard Snowboard Voile: DIRECTIONAL ROCKER: A hybrid rocker/camber flex pattern defined by more tip rocker then tail rocker and slight camber between the bindings. The rockered tip gives the nose added float and improves maneuverability while the camber underfoot gives you added edge hold and response. A slightly rockered tail maintains the power and stability of a traditional board but helps keep the tail catch-free initiating turns and landing switch. BLUNT NOSE: The Flagship, Hovercraft, and the Solution all feature a BLUNT NOSE that extends the profile and width of the board further toward the tip than a traditional board. Increasing the volume of the nose and tapering the tip profile at a much flatter angle than normal improves float by reducing the drag of the nose against the snow. MELLOW MAGNE-TRACTION: Like a serrated knife slicing into the snow, Magne-Traction improves your edge grip by adding multiple contact points along the running length of your board. The Flagship, Mountain Twin, and the Solution all feature a refined Magne-Traction design where the bumps are biggest between your bindings for maximum edge control and smaller outside your feet allowing you to feather your turns without catching an edge. FSC WOOD CORE: FSC was established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. The FSC wood cores come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. FULL WOOD CORE: Poplar core and beech. That gives the board more comfort and is more robust. The real all terrain core. FLIP FLOP BASE: By flip flopping the base graphic colors, P-tex waste is drastically reduced by increasing the material yield. CARBON STRINGERS: Carbon stringers are added to select models to improve pop and torsional stiffness and increase the longevity of the flex profile. This lightweight layer helps the board perform the same on day 100 as it did on day one - precise and playful. RECYCLED BASE: P-tex scraps are recycled into new bases. SINTERED BASE: Fastest natural base material available. Durable, absorbs wax faster and retains wax longer. Our sintered base added with carbon nano particles as well as additives, creates a better glide. This base is specially developed by Nidecker, and is very resistant to impact. ALU PROTECT: State of the art aluminum tip protectors. Elastomer is bonded to the aluminum to absorb vibrations Length (cm): 154, 158, 161, 164 Tip/Tail Width (cm): 28.7/28.6 (154), 29.0/28.8 (158), 29.2/29.0 (161), 30.1/30.0 (164) Waist Width (cm): 24.6 (154), 24.9 (158), 25.2 (161), 25.4 (164) Sidecut (m): 7.9 (154), 8.5 (158), 9.1 (161), 9.3 (164)

At the Edge of Empire: The Backcountry in British North America (Regional Perspectives on Early America)

Get free shipping on orders over $25! (In-Stock)
During the course of the seventeenth century, Europeans and Native Americans came together on the western edge of England's North American empire for a variety of purposes, from trading goods and information to making alliances and war. This blurred and constantly shifting frontier region, known as the backcountry, existed just beyond England's imperial reach on the North American mainland. It became an area of opportunity, intrigue, and conflict for the diverse peoples who lived there. In At the Edge of Empire, Eric Hinderaker and Peter C. Mancall describe the nature of the complex interactions among these interests, examining colorful and sometimes gripping instances of familiarity and uneasiness, acceptance and animosity, and cooperation and conflict, from individual encounters to such vast undertakings as the Seven Years' War. Over time, the European settlers who established farms and trading posts in the backcountry displaced the region's Native inhabitants. Warfare and disease each took a horrifying toll across Indian country, making it easier for immigrants to establish themselves on lands once peopled only by Native Americans. Eventually, these pioneers established economically, culturally, and politically self-sufficient communities that increasingly resented London's claims of sovereignty. As Hinderaker and Mancall show, these resentments helped to shape the ideals that guided the colonists during the American Revolution. The first book in a new Johns Hopkins series, Regional Perspectives on Early America, At the Edge of Empire explores one of British America's most intriguing regions, both widening and deepening our understanding of North America's colonial experience.

Rossignol BC 90 Positrack Ski One Color, 169cm

Dip into untracked backcountry lines on the BC 90 Positrack Ski. Rossignol threw you a wide shovel and an extended footprint to plow a stable path away from Lycra ridden resort groomers. Designed for breaking trail and floating a few steep turns through aspen glades, the BC 90 features air-channel wood core construction that throws open the gate to short trips across frozen lakes or weekend tours through the mountains. Ditch the wax and skins - the waxless Positrack base will give you enough traction to run up icy hills. Utilize the full-length binding retention plate to mount cable bindings or a light AT setup. Barebones winter mountaineering or casual, trail-busting tours are both within your grasp.

Backcountry Access Slope Meter One Color One Size

Backcountry Access Slope Meter One Color, One Size

It may not look like much to you at first, but the Backcountry Access Slope Meter packs quite a punch. When you're in the backcountry, bust out this handy-dandy slope meter, align the bottom edge of the meter with the slope, and read the angle. Backcountry Access used yellow, orange, and red tabs to code slopes with the most avalanche potential so you have an extra little warning when the pow looks perfect but the slope is in the red zone. Oh ... it also can be read from the side and above, and it doubles as a ski base scraper.

Jones Solution Splitboard Snowboard Voile 161

Buying into the World of Goods: Early Consumers in Backcountry Virginia (Studies in Early American Economy and Society from the Library Company of Philadelphia)

Get free shipping on orders over $25! (In-Stock)
How did people living on the early American frontier discover and then become a part of the market economy? How do their purchases and their choices revise our understanding of the market revolution and the emerging consumer ethos? Ann Smart Martin provides answers to these questions by examining the texture of trade on the edge of the upper Shenandoah Valley between 1760 and 1810. Reconstructing the world of one country merchant, John Hook, Martin reveals how the acquisition of consumer goods created and validated a set of ideas about taste, fashion, and lifestyle in a particular place at a particular time. Her analysis of Hook's account ledger illuminates the everyday wants, transactions, and tensions recorded within and brings some of Hook's customers to life: a planter looking for just the right clock, a farmer in search of nails, a young woman and her friends out shopping on their own, and a slave woman choosing a looking glass. This innovative approach melds fascinating narratives with sophisticated analysis of material culture to distill large abstract social and economic systems into intimate triangulations among merchants, customers, and objects. Martin finds that objects not only reflect culture, they are the means to create it. (2011)
