Artecnica F 1531 ST NT0 A conceptually innovative container bowl, the transNeomatic Large Bowl is a carefully designed accent piece which exhibits superb craftsmanship. Hand crafted by skilled artisans in Vietnam, this bowl was created from a repurposed scooter tire and natural wicker, and is thoroughly steam-cleaned and finished in an eco-friendly sealant. Packaged in a reusable drawstring tote, this bowl also comes with a handwoven hemp cover for an extra unique touch. Through Vietnamese non-profit organization Craft Link, Artecnica collaborated with Hai Tai rattan weavers and Hmong women weavers to create each piece. Disadvantaged Vietnamese youths were also enlisted to assemble the totes, providing them with artisan training and a framework by which they could establish sustainable livelihoods. Marcel Wanders has developed a technique to produce porcelain objects without the use of plaster moulds. A synthetic sponge is taken and dipped in a fluid porcelain clay slip. The clay impregnates the foam. Once the foam has dried, the foam is fired within a Kiln. The foam is burnt away and the perfect porcelain replica of the foam remains. An intelligent manufacturing process that has the ability to show the intricate qualities of porcelain clay. Artek 72 Alvar Aalto (1898-1976), one of the founders of Artek, was born in Kuortane, Finland. Alvar Aalto is recognized today as one of the great masters of modern architecture.
