Sky Crawlers Innocent Aces Nintendo Wii 2010

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces (Nintendo Wii, 2010)

The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is an original flight combat game designed especially for play on Wii. The analog stick on the Nunchuk is used as the control stick, to set the plane's pitch, yaw, and roll, and the Wii Remote is held in the other hand and used as the throttle, controlling speed and acceleration. Players steer the plane using motion, tilting the controllers to change direction. Battles play out with crisp, 3D graphics and realistic aircraft. The game's near-future sci-fi story unfolds between missions, in a series of anime cut-scenes. In a world that had known nothing but war for nearly a generation, a newfound peace left an uncomfortable void. This void is filled by corporately sponsored military conflicts, and courageous young men and women now take to the skies to fight for fame and glory. Players follow the adventure of an especially young pilot named Lynx, who rises through the ranks through outstanding battle performances in the skies above.

Sky Odyssey Sony PlayStation 2 2000

Sky Odyssey (Sony PlayStation 2, 2000)

Sky Odyssey Sony PlayStation 2 2000 Ratings - Rating 4.33/5(4.33)
With a combination of futuristic and old-school flying methods, Sky Odyssey launches the PlayStation 2 to the moon. Well...not really, more like the friendly skies. As the first flight simulation released on the 128-bit console, players are given 40 missions that range from landing planes on aircraft carriers to navigating caverns and waterfalls, rescuing an out-of-control hot air balloon, and refueling on a runaway train.

Additionally, there is an assortment of weather conditions to avoid such as gale-force winds, torrential downpours, blizzards and thick fog. Perhaps the friendly skies comment was a bit on the false side of things. After individual missions have been completed, pieces of an ancient map will be uncovered and the player will be one step closer to earning the prestigious "Pilot's Wings."

When all pieces of the map have been accumulated, a final mission will open up -- the nature of which remains a secret. Until that time, however, players will maneuver their chosen plane through exotic locations including mountainous peaks, tropical islands and disaster-ridden areas.

What kinds of planes will you be piloting? The ten available planes include a Sword Fish Mk. I Biplane, an F4U Corsair, and a Stealth plane, although some are hidden. By completing the missions and revealing pieces of the map, hidden aircraft will become readily available. While planes come with handling issues and unique physics, you can enhance the aircraft with performance upgrades.

Sky Odyssey has five gameplay options including the Adventure, Free Flight, Sky Canvas, Target and Training modes. Whereas the Adventure mode will have you uncovering lost pieces of the ancient map and unlocking hidden aircraft, the Free Flight gives you the option of exploring the exotic locations sans penalty.

In the Sky Canvas mode, a smoke generator is used to create pieces of sky-based artwork. The Target mode enhances maneuvering skills by having you fly through a series of suspended targets in the sky. Finally, the Training mode is for novice players, teaching the mechanics of gameplay and offering helpful suggestions on becoming a better pilot.

So there you have it. Are you good enough to plow through the given missions and unlock the hidden mysteries of your final destination? Sky Odyssey awaits!

Skies of Arcadia Legends Nintendo GameCube 2003

Skies of Arcadia Legends (Nintendo GameCube, 2003)

Skies of Arcadia Legends Nintendo GameCube 2003 Ratings - Rating 4.87/5(4.87)
An enhanced update of 1999's acclaimed swashbuckling role-playing title, Skies of Arcadia Legends makes its GameCube debut with a refined battle system, new characters, alternate side quests, and a host of other features designed to make it the definitive version the developers originally intended. For those unfamiliar with the earlier Dreamcast game, players assume the role of a young treasure hunter named Vyse who, along with female companions Aika and Fina, charts a course for adventure in a sleek airship. The party is pitted against legions of the tyrannical Valuan Empire and its Imperial Armada. There are also marauding Black Pirates to contend with, scalawags known for preying upon any ship daring to fly near them.

Players explore the world of Arcadia in the air and on the ground. A total of six moons are available to visit, each possessing its own set of villages, buildings, and dungeons. Battles taking place on the airship involve steering near enemy vessels, firing laser cannons or other projectile weapons, guarding against attacks, and possibly fleeing the scene. Airship and on-foot battles are presented in a traditional turn-based fashion. Each character is skilled with a specific weapon, whose power can be enhanced by finding and equipping Moon Stones. Moves characters can perform during combat are dependant on the number of the party's Spirit Points, which diminish with every spell cast in battle and advanced technique performed (called S-moves).

As players attempt to acquire fame and bounty at the evildoers' expense, they must prepare to defend their ship at every turn. The world of Arcadia is largely uncharted territory, so players must thoroughly explore both the land and in the air to discover new areas. Side quests include seeking out wanted lists or bounties for boss characters, where players can battle villainous pirates to reap a prescribed reward. There are also pets to care for and develop into more powerful creatures, such as catching flying moonfish and feeding them to an item-giving bird. Perhaps the most significant addition to the GameCube game is a female bounty hunter who will constantly pursue Vyse and his party throughout their journeys.

Sky Target Sega Saturn 1997

Sky Target (Sega Saturn, 1997)

Daniel Blade was the perfect military man with a penchant for high-stakes air combat. On October 17, 1999, he was the test pilot for the military's XF/A-49 prototype fighter jet when it disappeared from radar. It is believed that Daniel Blade has turned to a life of crime and is now working for the Deldine Corporation.

Mad Dog, a military unit that conducts secret missions for the government, has been hired to destroy the stolen fighter jet so that no one can use its advanced technology. You have been selected as one of the four pilots who will attempt to crack Deldine's defenses in an attempt to destroy the prototype.

In the style of classics like After Burner, Sky Target is a hybrid flight simulation and arcade shooter. From the start you can choose to fly an F-14, F-16, or the fictional Rafale M. Then it's time to take to the skies in either Arcade or Ranking mode. Arcade mode is an exact translation of the arcade game that contains seven levels. Blast your way through various enemy air, land, and sea targets with your unlimited-ammo Vulcan cannons. Or lock-on and destroy the enemy aircraft with missiles. At the end of each stage, you'll have to match wits with a boss who's typically ten times your size -- can you deal death to this horde of flying fortresses?

Ranking mode is original to the Sega Saturn version of Sky Target. The objective is to play a mission without ever being killed. Completing the mission successfully will result in a promotion and another mission. As each mission is completed new, more challenging missions will become available.

Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge Xbox 2003

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (Xbox, 2003)

Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge Xbox 2003 Ratings - Rating 4.38/5(4.38)
A follow-up to Microsoft's acclaimed PC title Crimson Skies, High Road to Revenge continues the adventures of crack pilot Nathan Zachary as he sets out to avenge the death of his best friend in alternate 1930s America. The game focuses on the action associated with flying a plane rather than the technical aspects of a simulation, so players will engage in dogfights using one of ten planes armed with napalm missiles, magnetic grapples, and sandstorm cannons. Each of the landscapes offer destructible terrain, allowing players to shoot down bridges, water towers, create landslides, and more to help in defeating enemies. In addition to the single-player story mode, up to four pilots can battle each other in a series of split-screen sorties.
