Food is an integral part of Indian culture. It is even an essential aspect of everyday Indian conversations. For Indian communities, the taste, aroma, texture, color, and appearance of food is just as important as the values and traditions they uphold. To help preserve and uplift the integrity of food, Indians use what is known as a Handi bowl. This bowl has a round spherical shape with a wide bottom. Its shape narrows from the middle up to its neck. The bowl's narrow neck supports the flared out opening that forms a broad rim. The bowl does not have a handle on its sides and therefore, this earthen pot is traditionally used for slow cooking. It was always a common vessel used in Indian cooking. It was heated over coals and covered with a lid to speed up the cooking process. Its metal construction allows food to be slow cooked without charring. Hence, using this pot helps preserve the natural flavors and aromas of ingredients, to their maximum extent. Handi bowls have also been introduced as tableware on Indian dining tables. They are primarily used to serve rice-based dishes, such as "biryanis" and other dry varieties. With efficient construction, the bowls consist of two layers of metal along with sufficient air cushioning. This ensures that food remains warm for longer periods of time. The Handi bowls make beautiful serving dishes and celebrate the wonderful flavors of Indian cuisine. They also add a touch of elegance to your dining table.
