In the beginning dealers routinely charged, and people willingly paid, thousands above the suggested retail price for Mazdas little roadster. Now, for the first time since its introduction, the Miata moves on to its second generation, sporting a new look and a more powerful engine. The 1998 model year was skipped completely, with the new 1999 model going on sale early in 1998.
