Connexins: A Guide
Earn 2% eBay Bucks on qualifying purchases! Backed by eBay Buyer Protection Program. Terms and Conditions apply.
(In-Stock)
US and European biological and medical researchers offer a reference and textbook on the connexin family of membrane channel proteins. The first section looks at the biology of the proteins, including genetics, structure, biophysics, electro-physiology, and cell biology. Specific topics there include gap junction channel structure, the chemical gating of connexin channels, electrical signaling with neuronal gap junctions, and pharmacology. A second section explores roles of connexin channels in various organ systems or processes, among them skin biology, the respiratory epithelium, the inner ear, female and male reproduction systems, secretion, and carcinogenesis. The length of the volume prevented more than passing reference to the role of connexins in the immune system and in hematopoiesis, and the possible non-channel functions of the protein. No mention is made of the accompanying disk, except that it is copyrighted. Annotation ©2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Physiology of Respiration
Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!
(In-Stock)
This concise, lucid textbook provides a basis for understanding the function of the respiratory system and a framework for the treatment of many respiratory diseases. It was developed as a working text with problem-solving exercises for the student's use in reviewing each chapter. The writing style flows easily from one topic to another. Mathematical relationships are presented in a simple way and are clearly explained. The illustrations are carefully designed to convey ideas in an easy-to-understand format. The book's scope is comprehensive, encompassing all aspects of respiratory physiology, including pulmonary anatomy and microstructure, mechanics, gas exchange, acid-base balance and control mechanisms. Unlike many texts, this one strikes a good balance between the principles of pulmonary gas exchange (ventilation, perfusion, gas exchange efficiency) and the neural control of respiration (central and chemical mechanisms and reflexes). It emphasizes integrative aspects of respiration such as the system's response to altitude, hyperbaric environments, exercise, sleep, and the in utero and early postnatal period. The second edition has been reorganized to make the book more approachable by students, and it has been updated throughout, including many new ideas about the distribution of lung blood blow and respiratory rhythm generation.

Principles of Physiology for the Anaethetist
Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!
(In-Stock)
The practice of anesthesia, including intensive care medicine and pain management, requires a considerable understanding of normal and abnormal physiology. This is reflected in postgraduate examinations in anesthesia where candidates are questioned in depth about many aspects of physiology. The second edition of this well-received textbook continues to provide candidates with a 'tailor-made' alternative to more general physiology textbooks, delivering information designed and written specifically with the trainee anesthestist in mind. The authors bring their extensive experience of teaching physiology to the book in order to improve the understanding of the fundamentals of human physiology in relation to the work of the anesthetist. The content covers the physiology of all the major organ systems, with specific emphasis on the nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. In addition, there are special sections on the physioloyg of pain, the physiology of ageing and the physiological effects of specific environments, all highly relevant to anesthetic practice. Diagrams throughout, praised in reviews of the first edition, are used to support the text and to aid understanding of difficult concepts. The second edition also incoporates a number of new features- learning objectives, areas for reflection and a handy summary of physiological equations. It will remain an invaluable reference throughout anesthetic training and beyond, and a useful revision aid.

Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders: The art of co-creating wellness while effectively managing acute and chronic health disorders
Get free shipping on orders over $25!
(In-Stock)
Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders is a clinically-oriented textbook that introduces and reviews concepts in the assessment and management of the acute and chronic disorders most common in clinical practice: hypertension, diabetes mellitus type-2, immunonutrition, immunorestoration, viral infections, dyslipidemia, musculoskeletal pain, mood disorders (especially depression and anxiety), and allergy and asthma. Patients are increasingly looking for nondrug and nonsurgical methods for the alleviation of disease and the promotion of optimal health; Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders provides you with the fundamental information needed for the successful integrative management of the most common conditions seen in the holistic practice of integrative medicine. With several thousand citations to the biomedical literature and about 600 pages of clinically-oriented protocols, this book provides enough information to manage a wide range of conditions successfully with evidence-based protocols. Students at chiropractic/naturopathic/osteopathic/allopathic medical colleges will find Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders to provide a needed blend of concepts as well as the practical how to information on patient management that is often neglected in other textbooks or which can only be obtained after years of clinical experience. This book will help you synthesize your courses in physical examination, manipulation, physiotherapy, nutrition, botanical medicine, neurology and therapeutic exercise into a cohesive set of skills that enables you to effectively help your patients overcome their acute/chronic health problems while you simultaneously promote optimal health--wellness--by looking at the bigger picture of their overall health rather than simply focusing on the problem. Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders is a compilation of the most popular chapters from Dr Vasquez's previous editions of Integrative Orthopedics and Integrative Rheumatology with brand-new chapters on Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus Type-2 and Metabolic Syndrome, Hypertension, Disorders of Mood and Behavior, and Acute/Chronic Viral Infections. These new chapters help doctors extend their mastery beyond the musculoskeletal specialization detailed in Dr Vasquez's first three textbooks (Integrative Orthopedics, Integrative Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Pain: Expanded Clinical Strategies) to treat a much broader range of clinical problems and thus to achieve higher levels of clinical success. With these new chapters in addition to the time-tested chapters from his previous books, Dr Vasquez offers students and clinicians access to evidence-based protocols written specifically written for the successful private practice of chiropractic and/or naturopathic medicine.
