NFL Americas Game: San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XIX - DVD
The fabled West Coast offense wasn`t invented in San Francisco, but the father of the system, Bill Walsh, certainly perfected it there as head coach of the 49ers. With quarterback Joe Montana at the controls, the Niners were a dominant passing team, winning four Super Bowls in the 1980s. And of those four, their record-setting season in 1984 may have best captured the deadly efficiency of the West Coast attack. The Niners receiving corps had many ways to beat you. To move the chains, Montana found Dwight Clark, and Russ Francis. For the deeper routes, Joe Cool had Renaldo Nehemiah, then the world record holder in the 110-meter hurdles, and Freddie Solomon, a former college quarterback. With Walsh scriptingthe first 15-20 plays of each game, Montana soon found the hot receiver and the Niners became the first team in NFL history to go 15-1 during the regular season. Practicing against the West Coast offense had its privileges, too.

New York Giants: Yesterday & Today

In 1925, Tim Mara was sidetracked from backing pugilist Gene Tunney s career, so he turned his attention to pro football with a $500 investment. Looking for a big-name player, he signed an aging Jim Thorpe, but the great one couldn t make it through a season. Mara made a run at Red Grange, but Grange joined the Bears instead. The Giants and Bears faced off that December in front of 70, 000 fans in the Polo Grounds. Mara cleared $30, 000 a huge sum for a money-losing franchise and the rest is chronicled in New York Giants: Yesterday & Today. This comprehensive, lavishly illustrated history of one of football s most famous franchise includes these stories: The first NFL title game, in 1933, and the Sneaker Game in 1934, when the Giants switched from cleats to sneakers at halftime to negotiate the frozen Polo Grounds turf and beat the Cleveland Browns The Greatest Game Ever Played, in 1958, when the Baltimore Colts defeated the Frank Gifford and the Giants in sudden death overtime, the first time that had happened in a league championship game Super Bowl XXV, when the Giants wore down the Buffalo Bills but needed Scott Norwood s kick to sail wide right to secure a 20-19 win And Super Bowl XLII, when quarterback Eli Manning and receiver David Tyree hooked up for Catch 42 en route to the Giants second Super Bowl win, over the previously undefeated New England PatriotsThe Giants offenses are known for their power running, led by the likes Tuffy Leemans, Rodney Hampton, Tiki Barber, and Brandon Jacobs. But it s the defense that s set the franchise apart, including Emlen Tunnel, Lawrence Taylor, and Michael Strahan. And with great coaches like Steve Owen, Bill Parcells, and Tom Coughlin and quarterbacks like Eli Manning and Phil Simms there s virtually no end to the talent profiled in New York Giants: Yesterday & Today.

Were it not so carefully documented, the remarkable football career of former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach would seem more fiction than truth. From his All-Star days as an Ohio schoolboy to All-American and Heisman Trophy-winning heights at the U.S. Naval Academy and from a four-year military stint to a decade spent leading America's Team to Super Bowl successes, the Pro Football Hall of Fame standout served as the gold standard for Sunday afternoon greatness.

Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!

Their football legacy is second to none--12 NFL Championships, 25 Pro Football Hall of Fame members, and names like Lombardi, Lambeau, and Favre, synonymous with a winning tradition. In a time when big money and television markets dictate escalating player salaries and franchise relocations, the Green Bay Packers continue to succeed as a professional sports anomaly. While surviving certain bankruptcy, enduring numerous seasons of mediocrity, and playing in the smallest market of any major sports team in America, the Green Bay Packers have risen to the top to be recognized as one of the greatest franchises in sports history. Green Bay Packers: Legends in Green and Gold chronicles the team's phenomenal successes, heartbreaking letdowns, and legendary moments, beginning with an inauspicious inception in 1919 through the Super Bowl XXXI victory over the New England Patriots in 1997.

Bigger Than the Game: Bo, Boz, the Punky QB, and How the '80s Created the Modern Athlete
Get free shipping on orders over $25!
(In-Stock)
A mesmerizing look at the year when American athletics went corporate, villains replaced heroes, and sports stars became superstars. Greed and excess defined the 1980s, and the sports world was no exception. Shifting from the love of the game to the love of money, athletes made the transition from representing honor and humility to becoming brash and branded. Capturing the stories of headliners who capitalized on this trend, Bigger Than the Game charts the rise (and sometimes spectacular fall) of four athletes over the span of one of the most dramatic eras in sports. Meticulously researched, with stirring, you-are-there reporting, Bigger Than the Game assembles a cast that includes Jim McMahon, who took the Chicago Bears to Super Bowl glory despite his penchant for partying and his aversion to following the game plan; Brian Boswoth, the university of Oklahoma linebacker who mugged for the cameras while calling the NCAA a communist organization; Bo Jackson, who pursued promising careers in both pro football and baseball; and Len Bias, poised to ensure the Boston Celtics' dominance but died of a cocaine overdose just one day after the draft. Also packed with portraits of folk heroes such as "Refrigerator" Perry and Michael Jordan, Bigger Than the Game offers a riveting ride for every sports fan.

Roger Staubach: Captain America (Great American Sports Legends)
Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!
(In-Stock)
If at one time the Dallas Cowboys were America's Team, Roger Staubach was America's Quarterback. Roger the Dodger was a real-life embodiment of apple pie, world championships, and role models. Staubach was a Heisman Trophy winner at Annapolis who served four years as a naval officer before going on to a stellar eleven-year career with the Dallas Cowboys that included four NFC championships and two Super Bowl titles. Considered the master of the two-minute offense and late-game comeback, Staubach eventually earned a spot in the Cowboys' illustrious Ring of Honor and, ultimately in 1985, the Pro Football Hall of Fame.If ever there was a perfect meshing of franchise, coach, and on-field leader, it was the silver-white-and-blue Cowboys of the seventies with Tom Landry strolling the sidelines in his trademark fedora and the unflappable Staubach barking signals. He led the NFL in passing five times, and when he retired at age thirty-seven he departed the game in possession of the highest quarterback rating of all time. After his retirement from football, he pretty much left the game behind, forsaking a shot at coaching or television commentary to focus his energies on the corporate world as chairman and CEO of the Staubach Company, a diversified commercial real estate company.Roger Staubach: Captain America is an oral history of Staubach's life, times, and career. It is told in the words of dozens of former teammates and opponents, friends, business associates, civic leaders, acquaintances, and others who have known him over the years. Staubach turned sixty in 2002, and this book offers a touching and telling testimonial to a true American hero and role model.

I Remember Reggie White: Friends, Teammates, And Coaches Talk About the Nfl's "Minister of Defense"
Get free shipping on orders over $25!
(In-Stock)
Reggie White's premature death last Christmas shocked the sports world. How could this phenomenal fortress of muscle and mind exit so young at 43? Those who observed him from a distance will forever freeze in time the pinnacle moment of White's professional football career: a champion ball-capped, T-shirted White jogging around the perimeter of the Louisiana Superdome and holding high the trophy he and the Green Bay Packers had just earned in Super Bowl XXXI. While many NFL greats leave an indelible stamp on the field, not as many make their marks as exemplary human beings. Those closest to Reggie clearly saw that distinction. I Remember Reggie White presents the recollections and favorite stories of this dynamic minister and pro football's Minister of Defense as captured in more than two dozen interviews with teammates, friends, coaches, acquaintances, and members of the media. The narrative spans his career from his days at Chattanooga (Tenn.) Howard High School, the University of Tennessee, and the defunct USFL Memphis Showboats through his NFL days with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers. Reggie White left behind a massive legacy. A thirteen-time Pro Bowler and consensus two-time Defensive Player of the Year, he retired as the NFL's all-time sack leader. Selected to the NFL's 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994, he still holds the Super Bowl single-game sack record. While football became his burning ambition at a young age, an equally passionate devotion to God and a genuine dedication to ministering resulted in Reggie's ordination as a Baptist minister at age 17. Often controversial for his observations on race and religion, he spent much of his time after retirement from pro football following the 2000 season studying Hebrew and translating the original Old Testament text.

Golden Boy
Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!

Paul Hornung was football’s “golden boy”—handsome, talented, and fabulously successful. He had a great career at Notre Dame, where he won the Heisman Trophy, was the number one draft pick in the NFL, and went on to the Green Bay Packers, a terrible team soon to be transformed by the new head coach, Vince Lombardi. Hornung’s Packer teams would become a dynasty, and ten of his teammates (as well as Lombardi) would eventually join him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Hornung led the NFL in scoring from 1959 to 1961, setting a single-season scoring record in 1960, and was named Player of the Year in 1960 and 1961.Hornung always loved the good life. He had girlfriends across the country and was a regular at Toots Shor’s in Manhattan and at clubs in Chicago and Los Angeles. A frustrated Lombardi once asked him whether he wanted to be a player or a playboy, and his teammates joked about his Hollywood ambitions. But the good life came at a price for Hornung, whose gambling cost him a year’s suspension from the NFL in 1963.On the playing field, Hornung and his Packer teammates made football history, and he has great stories to tell about them and about some of their biggest games together. Golden Boy is a must-read for football fans, a colorful, candid slice of pigskin history from one of the game’s immortal legends. (20080325)

All Rise: The Remarkable Journey of Alan Page
Get free shipping on orders over $25!
(In-Stock)
All Rise is the authorized biography of Alan Page, a remarkable man who became a pioneer for his race without setting out to be one. He grew up in Canton, Ohio, in the shadow of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, into which he would later be inducted after his stellar NFL career. After leading Notre Dame to a national championship in 1966 and earning All-America honors, he became a first-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 1967. A six-time All-Pro for the Vikings, where he led the team to four conference titles, he was named the NFL's MVP in 1971, the first defensive player to be so honored. After retiring and being elected in the NFL Hall of Fame, Page went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota Law School and to become a justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court. This stirring biography takes a detailed look at a truly influential and remarkable man.

Tom Brady unsigned New England Patriots Athlon Sports 2010 NFL Pro Football Preview Magazine
Fantastic prices with ease & comfort of Amazon.com!
(In-Stock)
Off-field issues involving Ben Roethlisberger and the since-traded Santonio Holmes marked the Pittsburgh Steelers' offseason. Can they regroup in the fall? The 2010 Athlon Sports Pro Football magazine answers this question and more while presenting all the great preseason analysis and predictions you've come to expect from Athlon Sports. Catch up on your favorite team's prospects for the upcoming year, prepare for your fantasy football draft or just kick back with our most interesting features yet! Athlon Sports Pro Football is a detailed forecast of the 2010 season. At its core are team previews that analyze and explain what to expect from the Steelers and every other NFL team this season. Each team is broken down and graded unit by unit, with analysis of offseason player moves and draft picks. Strengths, weaknesses, rosters, depth charts, schedules, stats, results - it's all here. The team analysis is complemented by an unrivaled feature section. For instance, we examine why more NFL offenses are favoring a pass-heavy scheme and abandoning the time-honored approach of pounding the football. Are the quarterbacks that much better? Some are, but there's more to it than that. And does more passing translate to more winning? You'd better believe it does. Who's the best of the best? The "Position Kings" feature will tell you by paying homage to the top players in the league at each position - and to the youngsters who will ascend the throne. Also, enjoy a candid Q&A with brash Jets coach Rex Ryan, revisit the 2000 NFL Draft, take an amusing look back at the season that was in "Extra Points, " and follow along as we pick out "5 Things to Watch" and make "5 Bold Predictions" for the season ahead. And, of course, we reveal our Super Bowl pick, analyze the 2010 NFL Draft, hand out expert fantasy football analysis and provide you with everything else you need to know about the upcoming football season.
