ASH is the main character of both the Pokémon anime and the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, and is believed to be based on the protagonist of the first generation Pokémon games. He shares his Japanese name-which can be taken to mean "wisdom" or "reason" -with the creator of the Pokémon franchise, Satoshi Tajiri. His English surname is a pun of the original English motto, "Gotta Catch 'em All!." PIDOVE is a mainly gray, pigeon-like Pokémon. It has large, oval eyes with golden irises, and a rounded head from which a spiky, crest-like arrangement of three feathers protrudes from the top of. It has a short, black beak, with a bulbous pink cere, with a black patch on the back of its neck and a wide heart-shaped area of lighter coloration on its chest. Pidove's black-colored wings have a thick gray stripe down them, and pink feet with black nails.

CILAN is one of the three Gym Leaders of Striaton City's Gym, known officially as the Striaton Gym. He specializes in Grass-type Pokémon and will battle the player if they chose Oshawott as their starter Pokémon. He gives the Trio Badge to Trainers who defeat him. PANSAGE is a primate-like, green-and-yellow Grass-type Pokémon. The proportion of its head and large ears are similar to that of Aipom. The upper half of its head and the broccoli-like sprout atop is green, exempting a pattern of three yellow, tapered seed-like shapes in the sprout's "foliage". Pansage's eyes are oval-shaped, with large pupils, and the lower half of its face is yellow with a small, dot-like nose. Its upper body and its skinny forelimbs are also yellow, and its hands seem to have no fingers, aside from thumbs. Pansage's lower body is green with small feet, and its wiry tail is tipped with two leaves.

JAMES is a member of the Team Rocket trio that follows Ash Ketchum and friends around in the Pokémon anime, usually trying to steal Ash's Pikachu, but always failing. MEOWTH has a distinctly feline appearance, resembling a small house cat. It has cream-colored fur, which turns brown at its paws and tail tip. Its oval-shaped head features four prominent whiskers, no nose, black-and-brown ears, and a glimmering gold oval coin (also known as a "charm") embedded in its forehead. Like Persian and 'real-life' cats, Meowth is capable of retracting the claws on its fore- and hind-paws and bringing them out again when needed.

IRIS is one of the Gym Leaders of Opelucid City's Gym, known officially as the Opelucid Gym. She specializes in Dragon-type Pokémon. She gives the Legend Badge to Trainers who defeat her. AXEW is a bipedal, greenish-colored Pokémon with noticeable nostrils and pale tusks protruding from the sides of its mouth. The back of its head, tipped with dark grayish-green coloration, has a horn- or spike-like, pointed and tall protrusion. Axew also has dark grayish-green coloration rimming its eyes, which have red irises. A collar-like, forest-green patterning encircles its neck; most of its body is a dull grayish green. Axew's limbs and tail are small, with its forelimbs having three digits and its feet having two digits.

JESSIE is a member of the Team Rocket trio with James and Meowth, that follows Ash and friends around in the Pokémon anime, usually trying to steal Ash's Pikachu, but always failing. WOOBAT is a white, shaggy creature, resembling the head of a fruit bat. It has a piggish, large nose with a nostril in the shape of a heart. Its eyes are hidden behind two shaggy tufts of fur. It has a large mouth with a single fang, and two relatively small wings on either side of it.

Lillipup is known as the Puppy Pokémon. The long hairs covering its face are excellent radars. It delicately senses the state of its surroundings. In the anime, Lillipup appeared under the ownership of Lenora, where it won in a battle against Ash's Tepig. GamesRadar's Carolyn Gudmundson noted it as being initially weak, but becomes quite powerful in its final evolution. Official Nintendo Magazine's Chris Schilling called Lillipup the new Rattata.

Bouffalant, known as the Headbutt Bull Pokémon, is a large, brown buffalo Pokémon. It features a large, magnificent afro on its head with two equally large horns popping out of it. Each horn has two golden rings on it. It has light brown hair ending at its knees. Even if it is dealt with a violent headbutt, its tufty fur absorbs the damage. It charges and headbutts anything indiscriminately. The destructive power will derail a running train.

Archen, known as the First Bird Pokémon, has a reptile-like mouth, and red, yellow, and blue feathers. This Pokémon is thought to be the ancestor of all bird Pokémon, and has been restored from fossils. As they were unable to fly, this Pokémon hops from one branch to another in order to move around.

Archeops, the First Bird Pokémon, is more capable of flight than its pre-evolution, although better at running. It is able to outrun an automobile. Archeops is also the only Pokémon who has the same base stat total as its national dex number.

Mandibuzz, known as the Bone Vulture Pokémon, are a female only species that resembles turkey vultures. They decorate themselves with bones; one sits in their hair, while another hangs around their waist. While soaring in the sky, Mandibuzz strike weakened Pokémon, and grab weakened prey with their talons. They haul them to their nest made of bones.

Palpitoad known as the Vibration Pokémon, is the evolved form of Tympole. Palpitoad have vibraters on their bodies that look like lumps. When they vibrate these lumps they can cause earthquakes. It possesses a sticky long tongue.

Golurk, known as the Golem Pokémon, is the evolution of Golett. It is based on a golem and a giant robot. When it is angry, it can create an earthquake. It can also use this energy to fly.

Gothita, known as the Fixation Pokémon, is a human-like baby Pokémon with purple skin, and black and white clothes. It has three bows, and a small tuft of hair. Their bows increase their psychic abilities. Gothita closely observe both Trainers and Pokémon, looking at something that only they can see.

Zebstrika, known as the Thunderbolt Pokémon, is the evolved form of Blitzle. It is known for its ill tempered nature, and when its angry, the lightning that shoots from its mane goes in all directions.

Stunfisk, known as the Trap Pokémon, is a flounder-like Pokémon with a brown body and yellow tail. It has very hard skin, and can take being crushed by heavy weight. It smiles when transmitting electricity. Stunfisk hides under the mud, shocking anything that touches it.

Blitzle, known as the Electrified Pokémon, is a zebra-like Pokémon. Its mane shines when it discharges electricity. It communicates with its comrades by the light of its mane. It appears when the sky is obscured by thunderclouds. It uses its mane to catch lightning and store the electricity.

Druddigon, known as the Cave Pokémon. It is possibly based on a gargoyle. It is a very savage and aggressive Pokemon in that it fights any intruder who enters its lair.

Golett, known as the Golem Pokémon.
