The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War now maede available in a wood model plane by Matercraft. The F4U incorporated the largest engine available at the time, the 2, 000 hp (1, 490 kW) 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial. To extract as much power as possible, a relatively large, 13 feet 4 inches (4.1 m) Hamilton Standard Hydromatic three-blade propeller was used. To accommodate a folding wing, the designers considered retracting the main landing gear rearward, but for the chord of wing selected, it was difficult to fit undercarriage struts long enough to provide sufficient clearance for the large propeller. Their solution was an inverted gull wing, a similar layout to the one used by Germany's Junkers Ju 87 dive bomber, considerably shortening the length of the main gear legs.

The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II is a carrier-based subsonic light attack aircraft introduced to replace the United States Navy's Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, initially entering service during the Vietnam War. The Corsair II was later adopted by the United States Air Force, to include the Air National Guard, to replace the Douglas A-1 Skyraider, North American F-100 Super Sabre and Republic F-105 Thunderchief. The aircraft was also exported to Greece in the 1970s, and Portugal and Thailand in the late 1980s. The A-7 airframe design was based on the successful supersonic Vought F-8 Crusader. It was one of the first combat aircraft to feature a head-up display (HUD), an inertial navigation system (INS), and a turbofan engine.

Despite a rough start and intense competition in the 1950s Boeing stuck with their jet airliner designs a decision that has paid off immensely. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing fixed-wing aircraft. First flown in 1955 and still in production, more Cessna 172s have been built than any other aircraft. Measured by its longevity and popularity, the Cessna 172 is the most successful mass produced light aircraft in history. The first production models were delivered in 1956 and they are still in production. As of 2008, more than 43, 000 had been built. The Cessna 172 started life as a tricycle landing gear variant of the taildragger Cessna 170, with a basic level of standard equipment. In January 1955 the company had flown an improved variant of the Cessna 170, a Continental O-300-A powered Cessna 170C with a larger elevator and more angular vertical tail. Although the variant was tested and certified Cessna decided to modify it with a tricycle landing gear and the modified Cessna 170C flew again on 12 June 1955.

The Ares V (formerly known as the Cargo Launch Vehicle or CaLV) is the cargo launch component of the upcoming Constellation program, which will replace the Space Shuttle after its retirement in 2010. Initially, the Ares V will launch the Earth Departure Stage and Altair lunar lander when NASA returns to the Moon, which is currently planned for 2019, but will also serve as the principal launcher for missions beyond the Earth-Moon system, including the program's ultimate goal, a manned mission to Mars after 2030. The unmanned Ares V will complement the smaller, and man-rated Ares I rocket for the launching of the 4-6 person Orion spacecraft. Both rockets, deemed safer than the current Space Shuttle, will utilize technologies developed for Project Apollo, the Shuttle, and the Delta IV EELV program.The Ares V will be able to carry about 188 tonnes (414, 000 lb) to Low Earth orbit (LEO), and 71 tonnes (157, 000 lb) to the Moon.

The HH-60J dubbed the Jayhawk is a Search and Rescue helicopter developed for the U.S. Coast Guard from the SH-60 Seahawk that the U.S. Navy uses. Both airframes are related to the UH-60 Black Hawk and are part of the widespread and diverse S-70 familiy of Sikorsky helicopters. The U.S. Coast Guard has 35 Jayhawks in service (plus 7 in storage) and has been using them as search and rescue aircraft since the late 1980s.Jayhawks also seee service as drug traffic interdictors and the entire range of helicopters is going through the Deepwater upgrade program that will upgrade all models to the MH-60T model giving them both increased firepower and protection for use as drug interdictors.The HH-60J is rendered here in a fine reproduction of the high-visibility U.S. Coast Guard paint scheme. The Lockheed S-3 Viking was a jet aircraft used by the United States Navy to identify, track, and destroy enemy submarines is now made in a destop wood model plane by Mastercraft.
