There are many things about the 522 which have been updated from the preceding GSG-5 to include a completely new streamlined polymer lower receiver with stipple textured grip. The upper receiver has been fitted with low profile sights and it now has an integral rail so you no longer need a special claw mount in order to attach an optic. The compact GSG-522 PK/FS features a PDW style side folding skeleton stock which when folded effectively reduces the guns footprint by nearly half. This makes the PK/FS a good choice for scenarios which see a blend of outdoor and indoor engagements. Inside with the stock folded this little gun is extremely easy to maneuver through doorways and down tight hallways. But, if you find yourself in the open just flip the stock open and shoulder it like rifle for added stability and control. The PK/FS is well equipped with a Version 3 gearbox fitted with steel gears running on steel bushings as well as a steel core spring guide with bearing. It has been configured with a lighter spring that produces 360 fps at the muzzle which strikes a happy medium between CQB and field velocities. At long range we found this little gun was able to achieve startling accuracy that was not thought possible from such a compact gun. We did note that lighter weight BBs do tend to curve at longer ranges so if your going to be shooting at distance we suggest using rounds weighing .25g or heavier to keep a flat trajectory. Using a .28g we were consistently nailing a torso sized target from 60 yards away even on full auto! Do not use with .12g BB's, this gun was made to shoot with .20g BB's or heavier.
