There are lots of mic preamps available these days. What makes ours so special?? For one, it's a design that's somewhat unique in its approach. Being admirers of the fully balanced transformerless circuits found in highly acclaimed recording consoles, we chose to use a similar topology. We began with a high speed input stage that would pick up lots of detail and nuance, and then followed it with a high current output stage. Circuit headroom is plentiful, and the input stage is very difficult to clip. Because of its fully balanced design, it can handle large input signals with ease. We also like classic transformer-based designs because of the characteristic they lend to the audio signal. Because of this, we added a 600 ohm M-6 silicon steel output transformer to give the audio a thick quality that's reminiscent of a prized vintage preamp. It's the best of both worlds in our opinion. The preamp is dual channel and features phase, +48vdc phantom power, and 10dB output signal pad.

The SS-11 is brother to the SS-20, but with added controls and increased flexibility. The SS-11 is available in two different versions, the A (Classic) and the B (Modern) versions. Both these versions have the same pedal layout, controls, and specifications; however the gain structure and voicing is slightly different between the two. This is the same preamp that is now supplied with their HFN series of guitar pickups, RG-03-A resonator pickup, and TC-A tricone pickup, and is now available separately for use with existing passive pickup systems. External Power Options The Artist II preamp is now capable of running from virtually any power source. It can be run from a 9 volt battery onboard the instrument or by any outboard power source between 11 and 48 volts such as Phantom Power as provided by a mixer, PA system, amp or outboard battery pack.
