Block printing has been practiced for generations; originally used to create bed sheets block printing yielded items which were not very marketable and this artisan group began to struggle.. It was not until Ramlal and his group came up with the idea to make more functional products using this age-old technique and traditional art that the eco-shopper was born. These reusable washable shopping bags are made from locally-grown and woven unbleached cotton. They are then hand-blocked using natural mineral and vegetable dyes. They have become the group’s best selling item which has definitely impacted Ramlal and his group. Fair trade has helped Ramlal and his group reach a market allowing them to live off of their art.
