The variety of ingredients in this mix are intended to reduce compacting of the medium while providing the moist growing environment that terrestrial orchids require. This mix is distinguished by what it doesn't have in it, peat moss. We make this mix with Coir which is ground coconut husk and the absence of peat is key to getting rid of fungus gnats. Fungus gnats are attracted to peat moss, and almost all commercially available plant mixes are made with peat moss.
