An excellent addition to Dragon's 1/48 aircraft line, this kit features the Fw190-A7 As WWII progressed, Germany suffered terribly under Allied bombing raids. This meant the nation needed more effective high-altitude interceptor aircraft to fight off the heavy bombers. One solution was the Focke Wulf Ta152, a high-altitude interceptor fighter derived from the Fw190. There were three different versions planned, with the Ta152C designed for lower-altitude operations and ground attack. Thus it had a different engine and smaller wings than the Ta152H and Ta152E. Interestingly, the name was changed from Fw to Ta to reflect the important influence paid by designer Kurt Tank. Highly detailed 1/48 scale assembly model kit of the Focke-Wulf Fw190, a World War II single-seat, single-engine fighter of the German Luftwaffe. The Fw190 is generally considered by historians as one of the best fighters of its generation. Often called the "Butcher-bird" by Allied pilots, the 190 was a fighter aircraft that inspired both fear and respect by those who encountered it in combat. Originally developed by Kurt Tank to serve as backup for the highly successful Messerschmitt Bf109, the Focke-Wulf 190 quickly proved itself as a highly capable frontline fighter aircraft, and before long, thousands of Fw190s were fighting alongside Messerschmitt 109s over skies of Europe. Over 20, 000 Focke-Wulf 190 of all variants were produced by Germany in the Second World War, and some of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aces in World War II flew the Fw190. The A Series Fw190 was the original short-nose design, and the type was fitted with a variety of BMW radial engines and armed with four machine guns (two fuselage-mounted & two wing-root mounted) and two wing-mounted 20 mm cannons. Some 6, 000 ground attack variants of the Fw190 (the F and G models) were also produced and utilized with success by the Luftwaffe, a testament to the type's versatility. The Focke-Wulf ARF is a great airplane for anyone who likes scale flying. The kit includes a fiberglass fuselage and cowling painted in gray and green. The kit is covered in Solortex and then painted in the vague scheme. The wings are sheeted foam. All control surfaces have beveled leading edges and the control horn mounts are preinstalled. The wing is complete with CA hinges. The leading edge of the wing is pre-shaped. This kit includes flaps. This book deals with the development history and testing of this fighter aircraft and production of the early variants of the Fw 190 A. An interesting comparison between the Bf 109 and the Fw 190 shows the strengths and weaknesses of the two aircraft, and authentic reports by former test pilots of Focke-Wulf and the Rechlin Test Station document the aircrafts performance. Also covered are the later torpedo-carrier and reconnaissance versions of the Fw 190. Together with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 formed the standard equipment of the German fighter arm in the Second World War and today is considered one of the most capable fighters of that period. Initial flight trials in 1939 revealed a number of shortcomings, nevertheless the basic concept of the Fw 190 proved extremely successful. In contrast to the Bf 109, which was powered by a liquid-cooled, inverted-vee engine, in developing the Fw 190 Prof. Kurt Tank selected the BMW 801, an air-cooled radial engine that was less sensitive to battle damage. The broad-track undercarriage also gave the Focke-Wulf fighter much superior takeoff and landing characteristics. The Fw 190 entered quantity production by Focke-Wulf and license manufacturers Fieseler, AGO and Arado in 1941. It proved an immediate success in combat operations in 1942, proving itself superior to the Spitfire in some respects. Lavishly illustrated with photographs and drawings, many of which have not been published before, this book provides both aircraft enthusiasts and modelers with a wealth of information, and fills a gap in the history of aircraft design in Germany.
