This exquisitely refined set of nine alms bowls is hand-lathed of Rohida wood in Rajasthan for use by the Jain monks. The white-robed monks renounce all worldly possessions, owning only these bowls. In a journey of humility, the monks travel on foot with only their bowls seeking followers who fill them with food. The beauty of each concentric set is that from three sections of wood emerge a total of nine bowls, each scooped from the heart of the bowl before it. Today, only 30 families in the region practice this ancient woodcraft art. By commissioning these families with our direct financial support, we hope not only to improve their livelihood, but to ensure their artistry passes on to the next generation. -Nine alms bowls -Handcrafted from Rohida wood -Set is wrapped in muslin and packed in a metal box -"One of a find" story included -Wipe with damp cloth -Made in India | | SEE IT |
