Every man, woman, and child incarnate upon the planet is being brought closer to this happening by the force of evolution itself. Just as man is differentiated from the animal, in that he is a self-conscious human being, so shall he make yet another advance in awareness to become a Soul-conscious son of God. No longer must he walk in the shadow of spiritual ignorance, for the Light of his Soul is moving upon his horizon. This movement of the Soul toward expression within and through its lower counterpart can be seen within the mass consciousness of the whole human family. In no area of that mass is it stilled, but moves constantly to produce an awakening of man to Its presence. Men and women everywhere are becoming restless, dissatisÂfied and overburdened with the world of material values they have created for themselves. They seek new values which will bring lasting peace to their world, little knowing as yet the nature of that peace. In recognition of, and cooperation with this activity of the Soul, a New Thought-Form Presentation of The Wisdom has been created and placed in availability for those who seek it. It can be contacted as an abstracÂtion via the activity of meditation, and must then be translated into a concrete form by the one who meditates. This series of instructions is an interpretation of that new thought-Âform, and has been written in an effort to aid man in the search for his Soul. -- The Nature of the Soul, by Lucille Cedercrans, Third Edition, pp. 3-4 | | SEE IT |

(In-Stock) Man and God in the World is a book about the truths of our human nature and about our expanding knowledge and understanding of ourselves. All insight into human nature begins from the fact that the Lord god fashioned us in his own human image and likeness. The great medieval philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas, working from the joint wisdom of the Judaic and Greek traditions, continued to ponder the nature of humanity and of our place in the world. Now, in this age, we witness the explosion of systematic knowledge brought to us by the social and life sciences, a cornucopia of knowledge about our nature. No one can tell what truths lie ahead of us as we explore that source, but the entire evolution of understanding is a single theme which is the subject of this book. Book ReviewMan and God is a thought-provoking romp through a wide range of topics crucial to contemporary intellectual and political debates. The author s reflections are thoughtful, well informed, and, at times, innovative.Book ReviewsJoel Clarke Gibbons, Man and God in the World: A Treatise on Human Nature(Philadelphia: Xlibris, 2009) Reviewed by Lloyd E. Sandelands, Professor of Psychology, University of MichiganHow can the findings of social science be reconciled with the teachings of the Catholic Church? Although the two canvas the same subject human nature they conceive it in different ways. The individual organism and social collective examined by science are not the human person and spiritual communion ministered to by the Church. Where the former are material facts in a natural world, the latter are spiritual facts in a supernatural world. Indeed, one can be forgiven for wondering if the phrase Catholic social science might not be an oxymoron.Joel Clarke Gibbons faces this challenge with glee in this smart, engaging, and wonderfully unclassifiable book. I say this last about the book because it is not plainly one kind or another. Although it draws heavily from social science, and particularly from economics and sociology, it is not quite a work of social science. And although it draws heavily from philosophy and theology, it is not quite a philosophical or theological tract. But it is as described in its subtitle a treatise on human nature a systematic account of the subject that is us. To my mind, it is a book of the best kind a book for everyone written by a powerful intelligence who wonders about this humanity of ours fashioned by God in the image of Jesus Christ. Gibbons confronts social science and the Faith without pretense or compromise. He knows he has opened a door on issues that have perplexed legions before him. And he knows he can no more resolve these issues than his forbearers. His message is the paradox that gives hope to all faithful science. On the one hand, with Saint Thomas Aquinas, he confirms that faith and reason do not contradict one another, that the laws uncovered by science are those of God who created them: There is one common thread that runs through ... our understanding of man, and that is the reality that our human nature comes to us from Jesus, who is the most human of all beings. When a physicist or chemist pursues his chosen field, he can proceed confidently in the knowledge that Jesus, the architect of the cosmos, has made it logically consistent and knowable. The social scientist has, if anything, an even more profound confidence because his science is a reflection of the being of Jesus himself (p. 8) | | SEE IT |

(In-Stock) Prayer of the Child Mystic begins as a single meditation on the simple truth of God, unfolding in rhyme for people of all ages and backgrounds to easily recall and contemplate. Each verse of the prayer comprises two aspects of God's nature, which are then expanded into their own poetic prayers for clarification, reflection, and inspiration. This sequence of contemplations concludes by returning to the original prayer, but with a deeper mystical understanding of God as the spiritual identity of all Being. Each of the twenty-six prayers can stand alone as a complete meditation, like many of the couplets throughout the collection. Every contemplative prayer is supported by a scriptural quotation and complemented by a color photograph. A complete and unabridged audio version of the book is also included on CD. The intent of the book is to offer adults and children alike positive prayers of truth that can be readily embraced, remembered, pondered, and lived on a daily basis; to aid the practice of meditation by presenting contemplative themes in rhyme;\tto provide a concise introduction to spiritual principles and the practicality of mysticism; and to glorify the One and bless the many with at least a hint of our divine light, life, love, and liberty. | | SEE IT |

A blues-harmonica-playing child psychologist at a residential treatment center in Santa Rosa, California, Tony specializes in narrative therapy. His story-based technique empowers abused teenagers to reimagine their lives through myths and folktales and so restore their vitality. Such vitality, however, eludes Tony in his own life. Mired in depression, he longs for his fractured family and fends off childhood flashbacks too painful to face. Tony's mentor recommends classical underworld myths as a roadmap for the spiritual journey toward healing and hope, but Tony is too drained for the undertaking. Until Carey Foster enters his life. Carey is a golden-voiced eleven-year-old choral soloist at a local Catholic boys' home. Brought to Tony's treatment center with his wrists sliced, Carey cowers mutely with his secrets in the center's locked ward, a flicking middle finger his only beacon. Carey's healing depends on Tony's ability to navigate the labyrinth of deception and cryptic self-disclosure that conceals the soul's darkest secrets. It also depends upon Tony's willingness to navigate the labyrinth of love and disappointment lodged in his own soul. At once a psychological study of how trauma is healed; a hero's journey through the underworld of abuse, betrayal, and shattered faith; and a theological thriller in search of a credible and sustaining Sacred in the midst of unspeakable suffering, The God of Shattered Glass reveals that stories do indeed heal, and that the way to God is not up, but down."This novel is a breath-taking, soul-searing, and truth-telling experience. When you allow Frank Rogers to take you into the lives of child psychologist Tony Backman and the boy Carey Foster--after a few sentences, you will be in Rogers' masterful grip--then you will enter straight into the depths of the human condition . . . I urge all serious readers to put on a diving mask and plunge into The God of Shattered Glass. This is a story that dares those who seek and teach truth to look into its mirror."--Carol Lakey Hess author of Caretakers of our Common House: Women's Development in Communities of Faith"Would that more of us theologians could write in this vein . . . It is one thing to assert that God is utterly compassionate toward every creature and calls us to a like compassion. It is quite another to draw us through the depths of hell and hatred to a realization of that compassion, even for ourselves. Frank Rogers' novel existentially deconstructs the cosmic patriarchy that so distorts the thinking of believers and unbelievers alike--and all the false expectations it has conjured up."--John B. Cobb Jr.author of For the Common Good and Christ in a Pluralistic Age"As somebody who has spent over thirty years working with troubled youth, I found Frank Roger's The God of Shattered Glass a revelation. He not only knows the boys in residential homes, he knows the world that created them. Equally important his narrator, Tony, a psychologist, who tries to save a boy who has been abused, comes alive as a passionate person who is willing to 'dine with demons, ' and reveal his hopes and fears. This book illuminates a much neglected corner of our world and shows how it is connected to the rest of us."--Daniel Judah Sklarplaywright and author of Playmaking: Children Writing and Performing Their Own PlaysFrank Rogers is Professor of Spiritual Formation and Narrative Pedagogy at the Claremont School of Theology. As a narrative educator and spiritual director, he works with marginalized young people and adult survivors of childhood abuse, using story as a means of personal healing and social empowerment. Their stories, and his, inform this novel. Frank lives in Southern California where he runs in the foothills and hikes in the mountains. This is his first novel, and the first of a planned trilogy. | | SEE IT |

In his book Kissing the Face of God, Dale Walker writes of the extraordinary things God does "when we live a life of compassion given as an expression of worship." Using abundant and engaging examples from his own life and others', Walker shows in a practical way how acts of compassion flow out of true worship. We follow Walker as he ministers in a nursing home in New Mexico, at a "Kingdom party" for street people in Hong Kong, to a prostitute dying of HIV-AIDS in Zambia, and to orphans living in a cemetery in the Philippines. In this groundbreaking book, Walker guides us to look where Jesus is looking, demonstrating how to find His presence in the suffering and hurting ones - "the least of these" - through a worship that changes the world. "Kissing the Face of God has literally changed my concept of what worship is and the unexpectedly powerful ways God can flow through it! A must-read for every worship leader, missionary, and pastor." - Tommy Walker, Worship Leader for Christian Assembly, Los Angeles "...reading this book will be a defining moment." - Delane Bailey-Herd, Project Manager, Food for the Poor, Haiti A full-time pastor for thirty-three years, Dale Walker is senior pastor of Heart for the World Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He and his wife Sharon founded Heart for the World Ministries, a missions organization through which they give their very best to those who have the very least. They have six children and eight grandchildren. You can listen to Dale's sermons at www.hftwchurch.org. | | SEE IT |
