Music to Shag By is an impressive budget collection of breezy '60s pop and soul, with an irresistible cast including Serge Gainsbourg ("Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus"), Jack Jones ("Wives and Lovers"), the Turtles ("You Showed Me"), Dusty Springfield ("The Look of Love"), the Troggs ("Love Is All Around"), and Tom Jones ("Without Love There Is Nothing"). The compilation also does an incredible job of including a few moderate or obscure hits that sound just as good as the well-known ones; listen to Madeline Bell's version of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" (ripped off by Motown one year later for a hit with the Supremes and the Temptations), Ruby & the Romantics' luscious "Our Day Will Come, " or Jerry Butler's confident slice of psychedelic-soul, "I Dig You Baby."
